JEE group study: how to prepare with friends

For JEE, group study is not for reading theory together. It is for solving, explaining and catching mistakes: one problem, one solver, two people asking why.

JEE preparation is long and often lonely, especially if you study from home or in a town without coaching. A small group of 2–4 serious aspirants can keep each other consistent and expose weak spots early.

The rule of thumb: study theory alone, solve and discuss together.

A weekly plan that works

  1. Mon/Wed/Fri – Problem rounds (45 min): each person brings 3 good problems from the chapter of the week. Solve silently for 10 minutes, then the solver explains and others question each step.
  2. Tue/Thu – Doubt swap (30 min): everyone brings their two hardest doubts. Whoever can explain, explains on the photo.
  3. Saturday – Mixed test review: after a mock test, each person explains one question they got wrong and why.
  4. Sunday – Recall round (20 min): say the key formulas and ideas of the week's chapters without notes.

Rules for JEE group study

  • Same chapter, same week. Don't mix 11th and 12th topics in one call.
  • Explain the idea and the trap, not just the answer.
  • Keep a shared list of mistakes; they repeat in mocks.
  • Stop when you stop thinking. Long tired calls waste the next day.

How Samjhao helps

  • Voice rooms for 2–4 aspirants, link-only or partners-only if you want a closed group.
  • Board: share a photo of the problem and your working; point at the step that went wrong.
  • Doubt Drop for doubts between calls, and Study buddy to find others free at the same time for Physics, Chemistry or Maths.
  • Recall checks that bring back your notes after 1, 3, 7 and 16 days.

Questions students ask

Is group study good for JEE preparation?

Yes, for problem-solving, doubts and test review, if the group is small and serious. Theory and first reading are better done alone.

How many people should be in a JEE study group?

2 to 4. More than that and most people stop solving and start watching.

How do I find JEE study partners online?

Ask in your coaching or school groups first. Otherwise use a study app that matches students by subject and free time, and try a few short calls before committing.

Should we study the same chapter together?

Yes. Follow the same weekly chapter so everyone can bring problems and doubts from it.

Can I use group study in the last month before JEE?

Yes, mainly for mock test review and quick formula recall. Keep calls short and focused on mistakes.
