How to find a good study partner online

A good study partner is someone studying the same subject, at the same level, at the same time as you, who shows up regularly. Being friends is a bonus, not a must.

Many students don't have anyone nearby preparing for the same exam. A study partner online fills that gap: someone to explain to, to check your answers, and to make you sit down at 7 pm even when you don't feel like it.

The hard part is not finding people. It is finding the right person and keeping it safe.

What makes a good study partner

  • Same subject and level: a Class 11 Physics student and a Class 11 Physics student, not Class 8 and a dropper.
  • Same language: you will explain better in the language you think in, whether that is Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil or English.
  • Same free time: pick fixed slots, for example 7–8 pm on weekdays.
  • Shows up: after 3–4 sessions you will know. Keep the ones who come on time.

How to find one

  1. Start with classmates and coaching friends. Ask in your WhatsApp group who wants a 45-minute call on one chapter.
  2. Use a study app that matches by subject and time. On Samjhao you tell it when you are free, and it shows other students free at the same time for the same subject.
  3. Try 2–3 short calls first before you commit to a regular partner.
  4. Add the good ones as study partners so you get a ping when they start a call.

Stay safe with people you meet online

  • Never share your phone number, home address, school name or social media in a study call.
  • Never meet anyone from an app in person.
  • If anyone asks for photos, money or personal details, leave the call and block and report them.
  • Tell a parent or guardian which app you use for study calls.

Questions students ask

Where can I find a study partner online in India?

Start with classmates and coaching friends. If no one is free, use a student study app that matches you by subject, class, language and free time, such as Samjhao's Study buddy.

Is it safe to study with strangers online?

It can be, if the app is voice-only, lets you block and report people, and you never share personal details. Leave any call that feels wrong.

Should my study partner be at the same level as me?

Mostly yes. Similar level keeps both of you engaged. A slightly stronger partner is fine; a much weaker or stronger one usually turns into one-way teaching.

How often should we study together?

3 to 4 short sessions a week works well. Fixed times help more than long random sessions.

Can I have a study partner who speaks a different language?

Yes, if you share one language you both explain well in. Samjhao lets you pick the languages you can study in and warns you before joining a call in another language.
